SIP-2 Performance Measure to be publicly reported in June 2007 (Information from Press Release issued by CMS effective November 7, 2006) The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) hasve announced that public reporting on Hospital Compare of SIP-2 (SCIP Infection 2), the Appropriate Antibiotic Selection for Surgical Prophylaxis Performance measure , will resume in June 2007. The data reported will be based upon measure information collected and submitted for discharges starting July 1, 2006. In June 2005, CMS and JCAHO anounced that SIP-2 (SCIP Infection 2) would be termporarily suppressed for three reasons, related to:
CMS and JCAHO have continued to collect data on antibiotic selection for surgical prophylaxis during the temporary suspension and after consultation with a technical expert panel of authors of surgical antimicrobial prophylaxis guidelines, have revised the masure to address the issues that resulted in the temporary suspension. The Specifications Manual for National Hospital Quality Measures for discharges beginning July 1, 2006 implemented the revised measure.
